## Key Features
### 1. **Random Room Assignment**
Reed begins Chapter 1 by checking into a random room in the hotel (e.g., Room 27). The sequence and layout of the rooms will vary slightly between playthroughs to enhance replayability. Each room introduces new environmental challenges, from blocked exits to malfunctioning lights.
### 2. **Characters**
- **Reed Lawson**: A pragmatic engineer trapped in the hotel while searching for an escape. His ingenuity and resourcefulness are key to survival.
- **The Janitor (Gregory Haines)**: A weary worker who serves as the hotel’s only other human occupant. Gregory is violently dragged through a window by two grotesque hands early in the game, leaving only his bloodstained mop behind.
### 3. **Monsters**
Each monster introduces unique challenges and adds layers to the gameplay experience:
- **The Oil Blob**: A shapeless black entity made of oil. It slithers across the floors and walls, leaving behind slick trails that reduce Reed’s mobility. Players must avoid direct contact and find ways to distract or trap it.
- **The Long-Fingered Hands**: These horrifying appendages first appear to drag Gregory through a window. The hands are unnaturally long and dexterous, capable of reaching into tight spaces. They reappear to grab Reed from unexpected angles, such as vents or behind doors.
- **The Tall Monster**: Towering and grotesque, this creature lurks outside near the generator. Its one massive eyeball, located inside its gaping mouth, constantly scans the area for movement. Players must crouch, hide, and avoid its line of sight while cranking the generator manually.
### 4. **Outdoor Generator Mechanic**
Reed must venture outside to crank a generator manually, which powers key sections of the hotel. The generator is noisy and draws the attention of the Tall Monster. Players must balance cranking the handle with hiding and staying out of the monster’s line of sight. The tension builds as the generator requires multiple rounds of cranking to fully power up.
### 5. **Puzzles & Mechanics**
- **Light Management**: Rooms and hallways are dimly lit. Reed must find and utilize flashlights, flares, and matches to navigate safely.
- **Circuit Repairs**: Using Reed’s engineering skills, players can fix electrical systems to restore power or unlock doors.
- **Environmental Hazards**: Oil slicks left by the blob can cause Reed to slip and fall, creating noise that draws nearby threats.
- **Stealth Mechanics**: Avoiding the Tall Monster outside requires crouching, staying still, and observing its patterns.
### 6. **Documents & Lore**
Scattered throughout the hotel are clues to its dark past. These come in the form of handwritten notes, old photographs, and scratched messages on walls. They hint at the hotel’s mysterious origins, the creatures' appearances, and failed attempts by previous occupants to escape.

- **Torn Letter**: “They’re not *human*. Don’t let the hands get you… they come for anyone who lingers.”
- **Photograph**: A faded picture of the hotel staff, with several faces blacked out.
